Mediation & Facilitation.

I believe in abolition, restoration, Viet Sovereignty. I hold communities as the arbiters of their futures without the interventions of a prejudiced system of law.

My mediation approach: Every version is real. What’s the combined truth you and the other person want to build in order to collaborate on a new, shared reality?

  • Mediation is a voluntary, confidential, and mutually collaborative process. As a neutral third-party, my goal is to help facilitate a resolution that satisfies both participants. Win-win outcomes are ideal but not always feasible. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that a mediation will end in an agreement. It is inevitably up to the participants to decide what they will and will not accept.

    What mediation is not.

Mediation is not a court of law nor am I a judge or jury. Things discussed in mediation cannot be subpoenaed (including the mediator). Mediation also takes no sides. The story of each participant is true and valid to their experience and upheld as such. I hold space for each participant to have an equitable opportunity to discuss their role in the conflict, but I hold no biases for either participant's narrative. I will, however, as the mediator, be very clear if I notice either or both participants engaging in manipulation, giving the runaround, causing harm, and/or avoiding the conflict at hand.

  • A wide variety.

When scheduling you can give me a detail of your dispute. If it's beyond of my scope I will refer your case out if requested.

I am trained in handling a variety of conflicts. Previous situations include:

Specific and ongoing relationship disputes between partners, family members, art collaborators, friends, community members, etc.

I also offer non-therapeutic relationship coaching for those looking for a different approach to couples therapy as a certified coach.

Organizational disputes/conflicts between coworkers, direct reports, managers, including issues over diversity, equity, inclusion.

Neighbor, Landlord and/or Tenant disputes that do not require legal counsel or break any laws.

Family & divorce mediation with a focus on queer and nontraditional family units, including request for amicable dissolution outside of a judge and court. My knowledge is California-based.

  • This depends. Some conflicts require multiple mediation sessions, others are handled within the first mediation call. The 20 minute free consultation will give me a better idea of the complexity of your case.

How general mediation process might go:

20 minute free consultation with participants to confirm that mediation is the next step.

60 minute conciliation pre-call/coaching session with each participant before the scheduled mediation to discuss your side of the conflict, including what's your best desired outcome + assistance on how to self-advocate. This call in confidential and details will not be shared with the other participant unless requested.

120 minute mediation session to start. Depending on how the first session goes, we may schedule subsequent mediations if the participants choose to continue. In my experience, conflicts can take between 2-12 hours for resolution, but again, there is no guarantee participants will reach an agreed upon outcome—especially if they are resistant towards collaborating on a reimagined, equitable choice.

  • Certified as a Conflict/Resolution Mediator through the Asian Pacific American Dispute Resolution Center, my mediation practice is rooted in intersectional unity, abolition, and restorative care. I have 200+ hours of formal mediation experience and hundreds more as a certified coach. All conflict/resolution mediation training has met the standards of the California Dispute Resolution Programs Act (DRPA) of 1986.

    Cost

The complexity of the dispute will determine the fee—split and paid evenly (50/50) between both participants—unless otherwise stated in writing. I offer a sliding scale but please be aware that I advocate all queer/brown labor be fairly compensated with a comfortable rate.

Between $150-$250/hr for community members depending on income, length, and complexity of conflict.

Organizations with annual budgets up to $500k: starting at $2,000 for up to 5 mediation-related hours.

For training, facilitation, and/or organizations with annual budgets over $500k: please schedule an info call.
